Modular Bridge Protection System

Our Modular Bridge Protection System is a passive safety solution developed for road and motorway bridges to protect structural girders from damage caused by oversized vehicle impacts. The primary function of the system is to absorb collision energy and to deflect the impacting vehicle in a controlled manner, reducing the risk of severe structural damage and traffic disruption.

Operating principle

During an impact, the modular, honeycomb structured panel progressively absorbs the kinetic energy generated by the collision,preventing serious or permanent damage to the bridge’s load-bearing elements.
The geometric design of the panel supports vehicle deflection, helping the vehicle pass safely beneath the bridge while minimizing secondary damage and operational risks.

Panel structure

Panels are constructed with an aluminium honeycomb core, enclosed by an aluminium outer skin that provides both environmental protection and additional energy absorption.

  • Two honeycomb cell sizes: 6 + 12 mm
  • Honeycomb foil thickness: 0.1 mm
  • Core material: Aluminium 3003
  • Outer cladding: Aluminium 3000 series, available in various thicknesses

The honeycomb structure ensures high energy absorption capacity combined with low weight, while maintaining durability and resistance to environmental exposure.

Installation

Installation is carried out in accordance with the bridge girder manufacturer’s approved specifications. The system
is mounted using auxiliary support structures, mechanical fasteners, and an integrated steel safety cable, ensuring secure and long-term operation.

Our panel system can be installed on reinforced concrete bridge girders without compromising the structural integrity of the bridge.
